ID, BANGKALAN - There are a lot of candidates running for the election supervisory committee (Panwaslu) at the village or kelurahan level in Bangkalan, but not many of them are female representatives. It turned out that out of the 919 people who registered up until January 19, 2023, the percentage of women had not reached the desired 30.

Because of this, women continue to have the most opportunities through the Bangkalan Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu). The Bawaslu is really hoping that there will be a good representation of female supervisors in the 2024 democratic party.

Additionally, the local Bawaslu has once more extended the period for women to register specifically from January 24 to 26, 2023, at each Sub-District Panwas Secretariat in order to achieve women's representation slots. Women must make up at least 30% of all applicants, according to Mustain Saleh, the chairman of the Bangkalan Bawaslu, regardless of the number of applicants in each village or kelurahan.

"For instance, there should be 2 women representatives if there are a total of 6 applicants in one village or kelurahan. In order to increase the representation of women, if there is still only one female applicant, a special extension will be implemented, Mustain told SURYA on Monday, January 23, 2023.

The registration period for Bangkalan Bawaslu's Village/Kelurahan Panwaslu had previously been open from January 14–19, 2023. 919 individuals were included in all of the registration files that were submitted to the Panwaslu Secretariat from 18 sub-districts.

In accordance with the number of villages/kelurahans in Bangkalan Regency, they will contend for 281 "seats". There are a total of 20 villages/kelurahans—spread across 5 sub-districts—for which the special registration period for women has been extended.

The registration period for men and women is extended to the final 12 villages/kelurahan. They will reopen registration tomorrow, Mustain explained, adding that there are 32 villages/kelurahan in the Bangkalan Regency overall.

It includes villages/kelurahans with an extension of special registrars for women in the District of Bangkalan City, including Martajasah Village, Mlajah Village, Pejagan Village, and Kemayoran Village. Genteng Village, Bandung Village, Campor Village, Sambiyan Village, and Sen Asen Village are all located in the Konang District.

Arosbaya Village, Lajing Village, Glagga Village, Batonaong Village, and Tambengan Village are all located in the Arosbaya District. Klapayan Village, Kelbung Village, Gunelap Village, Prancak Village, and West Tanagura Village are all located in the Sepulu District.

There is only Karang Gayam Village in the Blega District at the moment. In the Kota District, the Sabiyan Village, Gebang Village, and Sembilangan Village are included in the extension of male and female registrants.

Pandan Lanjang Village, Karang Duwak Village, Berbeluk Village, Cendagah Village, Makam Agung Village, Dlemer Village, and Plakaran Village are all located in the Arosbaya District. Nevertheless, only Labuhan Village is in Sepulu District.

Just to mention, each Village/Kelurahan Panwaslu member will receive an honorarium of IDR 1,100,000 per month for their participation in the 2024 Election. They will begin receiving honoraria beginning in March 2023, which is one month after the Bangkalan Bawaslu's anticipated inauguration on February 5 or 6.

The honorarium for each member of the Village/Kelurahan Panwaslu during the 2024 election is indeed higher than it was during the 2019 election period, when it was roughly IDR 800,000 per person. The amount of honor this time around does not, however, serve as the only incentive for applicants.

However, it is also due to the knowledge that through Bawaslu's creation of oversight mechanisms, the public has the right to monitor every phase of the democratic party. The total honorarium that members of the Village/Kelurahan Panwaslu will receive over the course of their employment, which could last up to 22 months and end in November 2024, is approximately IDR 24,200,000.

In order for women to be on an equal footing with men in terms of directly taking part in overseeing the 2024 elections, Mustain said, "We are providing the widest possible opportunity for that to happen.".
